Parker, the infamous novel series had its first theatrical adaptation in 2005. The novel series consists of nine books that started with Night Passage and ended with Split Image before Parker’s death in 2010.    Jesse Stone, a former LAPD homicide detective, is recruited as the new Police Chief of the small coastal town of Paradise, Massachusetts, Boston. He was hired by the corrupt president of the town council who thought he would be easy to control.

   On a cold wintry night, a corpse is discovered on a rocky shoreline by Deputy Officer Luthor Simpson. The deceased was shot twice in the heart by a .22 caliber weapon. Jesse pursues the case and gets the name of all the owners in Paradise who legally own a .22 caliber weapon. Shortly, a new body is found in a parking lot with the exact wound descriptions. With the discovery of the third victim, an eye-witness comes forward and reports a red Ford car driving away from the crime scene.

   Jesse checks the CCTV photos and learns about Andrew Lincoln, owner of the car and. a 22 caliber gun. Briana and Andrew Lincoln, are a middle-aged thrill-killer couple. After gaining some fortune the couple came to Paradise, selecting random, killing them, and gaining pleasure from the recorded murder videos. After a visit to the Lincolns, Jesse confirms to Luthor that the Lincolns are the serial killers.

   Meanwhile, with the assistance of Officer Molly Crane, Jesse brings the rapists of Candace Pennigton, a high schooler, to justice. While Jesse has a hard time finding evidence against the Lincolns, the killer couple stalks Abby Taylor, a lawyer, and Jesse’s girlfriend. They eventually murder her in a park. Devastated by the loss of his girlfriend, Jesse is determined to bring an end to the Lincolns’ criminality. He devises a plan to make himself their next target. He calls up Andrew and tells him to meet at the parking lot.

   While Molly and Luther wait at the parking lot to apprehend the criminals, Jesse deduces that Candace is the next victim. He waits at the girl’s house. Briana and Andrew arrive in front of the house. They enter the house to find out that they were set up. Jesse enters the room and gets shot by Briana with the .22 caliber pistol. To the criminals’ surprise, Jesse came prepared in a bulletproof vest. He shoots Briana dead. Jesse provokes Andrew to pick up the pistol and shoot him. Meanwhile, Hastings Hathaway, the wealthy and corrupt town council president of Paradise who planned the retirement and disappearance of the previous Police chief, Lou Carson, offered Stone the vacant post thinking that the alcoholic could be easily manipulated.

   After another frustrating phone call with his ex-wife, Jesse shows up to his formal job interview and regardless of his intoxicated behavior gets hired. He gets suspicious of the whole scenario. He takes over as the new police chief of the Paradise Police Department, which consists of Deputy Luther Simpson, Anthony D’ Angelo, and Molly Crane. Jesse meets Joe Genest, a thug who is involved in money laundering and provides muscles for Hathaway, after responding to a domestic dispute.

   Joe’s wife has a restraining order against her husband. Joe taunts Jesse, flexing his authority. Stone kicks him in the groin and warns the face down Joe to prepare for much worse if he gets near Mrs, Genest. Abby Taylor, an attorney and a member of the town council, visits Jesse and chastises him for assaulting Joe. Later, they develop a physical relationship and Abby learns about Jesse’s ex-wife and bad drinking habits.

   Joe, afraid of Carson talking about money laundering, kills him by throwing Carson’s car off a cliff with a truck. Joe demands a share from Hathaway for getting involved and killing the ex-police chief. Hathway agrees. Genet begins to harass Jesse. Jesse learns of the death of Lou Carson from state inspector Captain Healy who believes it to be an accident but Jesse says otherwise. Jesse and Abby attend a charity festival where they notice Joe flirting with Hathaway’s wife Cissy.

   Jesse confronts Joe about Carson’s death and the thug unknowingly hints at the fact that he was the murderer. Jesse grieves the loss of his dog who accompanied him. Jesse takes up the responsibility to bring Carson’s murder to justice. He tells Hasty that Carson was murdered and the chief suspect is Genest. Jesse also reveals Genest’s affair with Cissy. Later Hasty calls up Jesse to meet him privately.

   However, Hastey has arranged to kill and replace Jesse with Genest as the police chief. That night, Jesse arrives at the designated place and is soon approached by Genest. Genest pulls a gun and tries to shoot Jesse but is suddenly shot dead by Hathaway, who steps out from the shadows. Hasty prepares to kill Jesse but is stopped by Luthor. He puts down his guna and finally surrenders.

   Jesse Stone and his men investigate the death of a teenage girl found floating in a lake. Deputy Luthor discovers a high school ring with the initial HR engraved on it. Jesse is disturbed in his dreams about the girl’s murder. He struggles with his private life. He still keeps in touch with his ex-wife who convinced him to see psychiatrist Doctor Dix. After his first session, Jesse visits the grave of his late girlfriend Abby Taylor and blames himself for it.

   From the autopsy, Jesse learns that the girl was drowned and traces of alcohol and muscle relaxers were found in her blood. Jesse visits Dr. Lily Summers, headmistress of the high school, who identifies the owner of the ring, William Hooker Royce. Hooker tells Jesse that he briefly dated a girl named Billie Bishop and after the young couple broke up, Hooker gave the ring to her.

   Jesse learns from Lily that Billie was a former A-grade before coming to Paradise but something changed her. Her parents tell Jesse that she was thrown out of her home after the drastic change. Simultaneously, Jesse deals with a domestic abuse case. Jesse’s investigation leads him to Sister Mary, who took in Billie. He gets a phone number from sister Mary that Billie left behind in case of an emergency.

   Jesse’s new prime suspect becomes Norman Shaw, a local writer who has ties with the Boston mob. Jesse and Luthor visit Norman at a fundraising party. Afterward, Jesse learns that Shaw is writing a book on Boston mobster Leo Finn. Jesse confronts Leo but gets nothing about Norman. Later, Jesse and Luthor try to stop an armed robbery and in the process, Luthor gets critically wounded which makes him comatose.

   Later Finn tells Jesse that he did not want to meet Norman because he didn’t want a child molester to write his biography. Jesse returns to Shaw’s house and finds evidence of the murder. He arrests Shaw and through DNA testing it is revealed that Norman was the father of Billie’s unborn child. Jesse is distressed as nothing adds up to his case. He arranges another meeting with Leo. Leo shows up with his bodyguard Lovey.

   Jesse speculates that Shaw was going to expose Finn through the biography and Leo had to kill Billie to stop Norman from doing so. Lovey pulls out a gun and Jesse takes cover behind Leo. Leo gets shot and Jesse returns fire Lovey kills him. Jesse visits Billie’s grave before seeing Luthor at the hospital.

Following Dr. Dix’s advice, Jesse digs up one of the unsolved cases.

   In 1992, Rebecca Lewis, a bank employee was taken hostage and her dead body was later found buried. The police concluded that the robber killed her. Jesse and Molly visit the site where her body was found. They dig up the same place for more clues. Beneath the area, Jesse finds the clothes of the robber with evident gunshot wounds.    Jesse thought that the security guard must have accidentally shot Rebecca but the security guard clarifies that he shot the robber, not the clerk. Trying to dig deep in, Jesse questions Hasty Hathaway. Hasty tells him that the loss was a little less than 2 million dollars instead of the claimed $24000. Most of it was hidden by the Boston mobster Gino Fish and Hasty later notifies Fish about Jesse’s investigation.

   Interested in getting his money back through Jesse, Gino orders Terrance Genest to follow the cop. After solving another case, Jesse visit’s Rebecca’s sister Leeann, who moved to Paradise to take care of her ailing mother after Rebecca’s death. They have a decent conversation about Leeann’s background and how could she afford her mother’s treatment. Jesse’s intuition made him check up on Leeann’s background.

   He finds out that Leeann was reported missing on the day of the robbery. Jesse deduces that Leeann is Rebecca. Rebecca reveals her disguised identity after Jesse confronts her. She and her sister planned to steal Gino’s illegal money and run away. According to the plan Rebecca was taken hostage but Leeann, the robber, gets shot. By the time they reached their safe spot, Leeann died. Rebecca exchanged Leeann’s clothes with hers, took the robber’s outfit, and buried it below Leeann’s dead body.

   Rebecca took the money and escaped to California but had to return after her mother suffered a stroke. Jesse tells Gino that the robber spent most of her money on taking care of her sick mother. Gino believes that Jesse does not know the whereabouts of his money and agrees to call off Terrance.

   Back at his home, Jesse tries to fix Ozzie Smith’s picture frame but notices Terrance pointing a gun at him in the reflection. Jesse dodges the bullet, grabs his gun, and takes cover. He shoots and kills Terrance. With his dog by his side and a drink in his hand, Jesse emotionally stares at the evening sky.

   He is also disliked by the council because the best ticket writer had to resign from the Police Department because of Jesse. Jesse’s relationship with his ex-wife gets a bit tipsy after she tells him that she is moving in with her producer to which Jesse shows discontentment. Jesse still defies the council and investigates Captain Healy’s case.

   Jesse’s leads finally bring him face-to-face with Teddy Leaf, an extremely dangerous man who frames his targets. Jesse threatens Leaf in a bar bathroom and leaves. Jesse then gets Leaf to follow him to an apartment with Luthor’s help, Jesse apprehends Leaf and calls the police. Leaf gets arrested on account of burglary.

   Subplot

   Elizabeth Blue from New Mexico seeks Jesse’s help to find her baby son who went missing seven years ago. Two years ago she received a letter that read “Your child is loved” which brought her to Massachusetts. Jesse turns down the case but Rose disagrees. Rose decides to investigate the case.

   With some advice from Luthor, Rose learns of Stephanie Morton. They discover that Morton had a baby boy at the same time Blue’s son was born, Morton’s son died when she was on a vacation in New Mexico. She stole Blue’s son and left her dead son in the New Mexico desert. Jesse and Stone make a trip to visit Stephanie.

   There they learn that Blue’s son died two years ago when she sent the letter to Elizabeth. He drowned while skating on thin ice. Morton tried to save him but failed. Jesse returns and finds out that he is suspended. Rose and Luthor agree not to arrest Morton until Jesse gets back and tells Elizabeth personally.

6. Jesse Stone: No Remorse(2010)

Jenn asks to have a conversation with Jesse after she fought with her new partner. Frustrated, Jesse rips off his telephone’s wire.

   Rose and Jesse get closer after she helps program his new phone. After a second murder in the parking garage, Healy asks for Jesse’s expertise and offers him to work as a private consultant. Jesse learns that the first victim had ties to the Boston mob, Gino Fish. At first, Gino denies having any connection with the first victim. When a third victim is murdered.

   Jesse questions Gino the second time and he confesses that he knew the first victim. His secretary Alan shines some light upon the matter. Jesse learns from Sister Mary that Gino and Alan, both are gay and the first victim had been to Gino and Alan’s favorite gay bar. Jesse suspects that Alan killed the victim out of jealousy.

   To divert everyone’s understanding, Alan had killed the other two to make it look like it was the job of a serial killer. Stone confronts Gino, and later Alan with his conclusions. Stone sets up a meeting with Alan at the gay bar. When Jesse arrives he sees Alan being killed in a hit and run. Jesse and Healy later comprehend that Gino must have killed Alan to save his reputation in the mob world.

   Subplot

   Two robberies occur in a convenience store. A clerk from one of the stores gets injured and dies. Jesse unofficially picks up the case and investigates it. He checks the surveillance of a man in both the convenience store just before the robberies. He deduces that the robber and the man are partners in crime. He befriends Emily and gives her his phone number and tells her to call him if she sees the criminals. She does and with the help of Luthor and Rose and arrests them before they could escape.

   Jesse has problems bonding with his new dog because of his fight with his ex-wife. Dr. Dix breaks it to him the reason why Jesse thinks to abandon the dog. Jesse befriended Hathaway who, after getting released from prison opens up a car dealer shop. Hathaway warns Jesse how the town council decides to fire him and his colleagues for so-called corruption.

The first one involves a friend with whom he did not contact in a long while. He also works as a consultant investigator at Massachusetts State Police Homicide Division.

   He pursues his second case in a robbery and a murder suspect. Jesse and State Police Captain Healy, have a suspicion as to the murder suspect’s guilt. Jesse simultaneously deals with Butler who wants him to give up his duty firearm since he is no longer in the force.    Jesse had to lose his job because of the current town council president Carter Hansen who wanted to give the job to his son-in-law William Butler. Chief Butler and Officer D-Angelo die in a suspicious police cruiser explosion. Hansen brings back Jesse as the temporary Police Chief to solve the mystery behind his beloved son-in-law’s murder.

   Surprisingly, Hasty Hathaway former money launderer and town council president of Paradise knew about William’s death before Hansen could be notified. Jesse tries to bring back his former colleagues Luthor Simpson and Rose Garmon but they have already moved on after William became the new Police Chief. This time Jesse has to solve the crime all by himself.

   Jesse discovers a possible clue in William’s desk calender on the 24th April page that read “2AH10”. Captain Healy and Dr. Drix both show up to assist Jesse. Through his investigations, Jesse finds out that the most plausible suspect is an associate of Gin Fish, who hanged himself. Jesse also learns that Gino has a boss whose identity is discrete.

   Jesse also confronts an assassin Arthur ‘Art’ Gallery who had been following him. Jesse manages to corner and carefully pressurize Hasty who in reality is Gino’s boss. Jesse baits Hasty by telling him that a laptop hard drive supposedly evidence is in the process of recovery. Hasty panics and tells his people to speed up the process which indicates either or both: Jesse’s death or a drug deal.

   At the shipyard where the deal was to take place, Arthur tries to shoot Jesse with his rifle but Jesse plays head-on taking Arthur down with five shots. In the end, Luthor returns, implying the return of Rose as well. It is also assumed that Jesse gets back his position as the Police Chief of Paradise.

Richard is said to have proudly accepted his first three murders but stood by his word for not killing the fourth person.

   Jesse interrogates the killer and concludes that Richard did not kill Mavis Davies, the fourth victim. Jesse interviews Mavis’s husband Bruce Davies but he has no intention of reopening the case because he is still disappointed after learning that his wife was a prostitute. Jesse asks about Mavis’s dog Steve’s whereabouts that he saw in the photos.

   Jesse saves Steve from getting euthanized but he hardly has any appetite. Meanwhile, Jesse sees a girl named Jenny sitting in the park and smoking pot. Concerned and interested, Jesse asks Luthor to follow Jenny and know her family status. Jesse learns that Jenny’s mother is an alcoholic and commits child abuse on her.

   Jesse confronts the mother and advises her to meet Dr. Dix to free herself from the addiction. Back at home, to Jesse’s surprise, Steve eats after a long time. Jesse meets State Police Detective Dan Leary, the one to arrest the Boston Ripper. Leary firmly believes that Richard committed all four murders since the murder stopped after his arrest. Jesse looks for the toxicology report buts finds nothing as if it was “scrubbed”.

   Jesse learns from Mavis’s retired colleague Amelia Hope that she was having an affair with a police officer. Jesse reports to Lt. Greenstreet and tells him that he suspects Leary to be Mavis’s true killer, Digging up old records it showed that Leary once arrested Mavis for prostitution. Soon after, Leary shows up in Amelia’s new workplace.

   Amelia tries to escape but gets handcuffed. Jesse arrives and Leary threatens to kill her before shooting at Jesse. Jesse returns to fire killing Leary. Jesse comforts Amelia and later takes Jenny to Sister Mary John’s to live while her mother recovers from her alcoholism. Jesse sits by the ocean with his new dog.
