    On a cold wintry night, a corpse is discovered on a rocky shoreline by Deputy Officer Luthor Simpson. The deceased was shot twice in the heart by a .22 caliber weapon. With the discovery of the third victim, an eye-witness comes forward and reports a red Ford car driving away from the crime scene.

    With some advice from Luthor, Rose learns of Stephanie Morton. They discover that Morton had a baby boy at the same time Blue’s son was born, Morton’s son died when she was on a vacation in New Mexico. She stole Blue’s son and left her dead son in the New Mexico desert. Jesse and Stone make a trip to visit Stephanie.

    There they learn that Blue’s son died two years ago when she sent the letter to Elizabeth. He drowned while skating on thin ice. Morton tried to save him but failed. Jesse returns and finds out that he is suspended. Rose and Luthor agree not to arrest Morton until Jesse gets back and tells Elizabeth personally.
