Best 10 Hulu Original Movies

Hulu is subtly establishing itself as the leader in original movie streaming. Hulu’s collection contains a number of genuine winners with an impressively consistent track record. For some years, Hulu has been quietly producing top-notch original movies. Even if not all of them are successful, most at least have some advantages. And if the trend continues, the films will only get more famous, notable, and star-studded.

The ad-supported version of Hulu, which prices about $6.99 monthly or $69.99 annually, is the cheapest way to subscribe. You can avoid the ads by subscribing to Hulu’s ad-free subscription for $12.99 per month. For $13.99 a month, or $19.99 for the version without ads, you can get the Disney Bundle, which combines Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+. HULU original films are progressively forming a line while Amazon Prime Video and Netflix are still regarded as the two biggest platforms for movie originals. The list will only include the most significant movies that they have made, despite the streaming service focusing mostly on non-fiction storytelling. This is a safe spot to look if you’re trying to find the best movies on Hulu.

Best 10 Hulu Original Movies

  1. Big Time Adolescence

    Director: Jason Orley

    Writer: Jason Orley

Stars: Griffin Gluck, Larry John Meyers, Michael Devine

    Genres: Comedy, Drama

     Big Time Adolescence(2019) on IMDb

The 2020 comedy Big Time Adolescence starred Saturday Night Live actor Pete Davidson, who brought his oddly endearing troubled-soul demeanor to a surprisingly heartwarming coming-of-age comedy. He portrays Zeke, a 23-year-old who breaks up with his fiancée Kate but stays close with Kate’s younger brother Mo, a 16-year-old. Zeke is a harmful influence because he introduced Mo to drinking, smoking marijuana, and giving his friends drugs at gatherings.

Mo gains popularity and even kisses with a girl, but Zeke’s irresponsible behavior keeps everything off-balance. Although the storyline of the mismatched buddies is relatively well-known, the film is humorous and maintains a connection to its humanity instead of relying on obvious sitcom clichés.

  2. Crime + Punishment

    Director: Stephen T. Maing

Stars: Manuel ‘Manny’ Gomez, Sandy Gonzales, Rukia Lumumba

    Genre: Documentary

Crime + Punishment (2018) on IMDb

The 2018 film Crime + Punishment by Stephen T. Maing, which was nominated for a 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary, appears even more timely now than it did then. It deals with quotas that were declared unlawful in the New York Police Department in 2010, but which are still in use today. Police are urged to target predominantly Black and Latinx residents as they must make a particular number of monthly arrests.

Maing records audio and visual proof of this, as well as proof of the penalties meted out to cops who defy orders. The primary concern is Manny Gomez, a former police officer who is now a private investigator. He is a bear-sized, extremely persuasive, old-school New Yorker who is as committed to fighting corruption as he is too delectable lobster roll pastries. The story revolves around a terrifying court hearing in which courageous officers, recognized as the NYPD 12, come forward and try to sue the department.

  3. Good Luck to You, Leo Grande

    Director: Sophie Hyde

    Writer: Katy Brand

Stars: Emma Thompson, Daryl McCormack, Isabella Laughland

    Genres: Comedy, Drama

Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022) on IMDb

In Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, Nancy performs the weirdest thing of her life by hiring and meeting a sex worker in a hotel. Her late spouse was her one and only sexual partner, and they shared a mainly apathetic relationship. She is a bit anxious. Not even an orgasm. But Leo, who speaks with calm and assurance, is incredibly understanding and pays attention to her.

The majority of the movie is dialogue, but it is an intelligent dialogue on actual issues. Taboo subjects like pleasure and aging are explored through the language, written by Katy Brand, and the superb acting. It never feels constrained or stage-bound as director Sophie Hyde makes the primarily indoor, one-set film bright and dynamic.

  4. Wounds

    Director: Babak Anvari

    Writers: Babak Anvari, Nathan Ballingrud

Stars: Armie Hammer, Zazie Beetz, Karl Glusman

    Genres: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Thriller

     Wounds (2019) on IMDb

With his outstanding horror movie Under the Shadow from 2016, Iranian director Babak Anvari gained recognition on a global scale. Director Anvari delves straight into the heart of American independent cinema with his 2019 film Wounds, assembling a smart cast that includes underappreciated talents like Armie Hammer and Dakota Johnson to create a strong horror movie that doesn’t always pull its punches.

Based on Nathan Ballingrud’s novella The Visible Filth, Wounds depicts a bartender in New Orleans who gets sucked into a twisted, physically black horrible place when an incident occurs at his bar. Wounds has some creepy visuals, but it doesn’t quite land the way it should have. It combines elements of the unhinged aspect of manhood with the occult and an undeveloped satire on technology.

  5. No Exit

    Director: Damien Power

Writers: Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari, Taylor Adams

Stars: Havana Rose Liu, Danny Ramirez, David Rysdahl

    Genres: Drama, Mystery, Thriller

     No Exit (2022) on IMDb

Havana Rose Liu plays the heroin addict Darby in Damien Power’s No Exit. Darby is compelled to escape prison because her mom is gravely ill in another town. She gets caught in a blizzard on the way there and seeks refuge with an arbitrary group of people. Before she learns that one of the individuals residing on this hills rest stop has abducted a girl who is being held captive in the back of a vehicle parked outside, everything appears to be going according to plan.

This idea is so intriguing that it can make any spectator sit through 90 or so minutes of building tension. Sadly, Power can’t take use of that. He was unable to keep out his cards for an extended period of time, which was the cause in this case. There are many surprises in store for the reader in this story, but because the most crucial one comes a bit too quickly, the suspense kind of fizzles out before the story turns to macabre antiques.

  6. Plan B

    Director: Natalie Morales

    Writers: Joshua Levy, Prathiksha Srinivasan

Stars: Kuhoo Verma, Victoria Moroles, Michael Provost

    Genre: Comedy

     Plan B (2021) on IMDb

A brilliant, geeky high school kid and her perpetually lazy best friend are the subjects of Natalie Morales’ movie. The friendship between the two lovable, inseparable girls is vibrant. This is true up until Sunny, the geek has an unintentional sexual experience. Putting the two girls through a stressful ordeal while they attempt to get the pill to prevent her from being impregnated. As they encounter strange, eccentric personalities on their quest for self-realization, their bond is also put to the test.

Plan B appears to function on paper and during the initial setup. It succeeds in highlighting the main characters’ remarkable chemistry with one another. But as the movie goes on, the tone changes so drastically that it’s difficult to become comfortable. Rather than being a coming-of-age film with depth, Morales’ film sort of devolves into a weird cut across 80s teen comedy with a single theme and superficial execution.

  7. Palm Springs

    Director: Max Barbakow

    Writers: Andy Siara, Max Barbakow

Stars: Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, J.K. Simmons

    Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Mystery, Romance

     Palm Springs (2020) on IMDb

Among the best movies of the year, according to many critics, is Palm Springs because it is so carefree, upbeat, humorous, brilliant, cute, and immensely engaging. A tonic for frazzled nerves, it’s one of those movies that was desperately required during the pandemic.

Nyles trapped in a temporal loop on the day of a friend’s wedding finds. The film cleverly allows us to experience one day before revealing that Nyles has been stuck in this cycle for some time and has learned to enjoy himself as much as he can simply. However, he brings Sarah along by mistake on a specific day, and she too gets stuck. The couple must choose whether to unwind and enjoy themselves or try to escape the loop as they deal with their affections for one another and Nyles’s background. As a separate time-looper with a separate objective, J.K. Simmons gives a fantastic performance as a co-star.

  8. The Princess

    Director: Le-Van Kiet

    Writers: Ben Lustig, Jake Thornton

Stars: Joey King, Olga Kurylenko, Antoni Davidov

    Genres: Action, Drama, Fantasy, Thriller

     The Princess (2022) on IMDb

The princess awakens in a willowy bridal gown, imprisoned in a tall castle tower. When two men try to harm her, she rushes into action, murders both of them, and flees. Her goal is to save her family, the queen and the king, and her younger sister, from the cruel warmonger she was destined to marry as she makes her way around the palace for the remainder of the film.

The Princess has a lot of plot, maybe way too much of it, but it works best when King is showing off, taking blows, getting hurt, and gradually tearing off the dress’s bottom and sleeves. Olga Kurylenko, the villain’s sidekick and lover, periodically commits an evil deed as Dominic Cooper smirks and yells, detracting from the main plot. However, the 94 minutes fly by and are tremendously entertaining.

  9. The Valet

    Director: Richard Wong

Writers: Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg, Francis Veber

Stars: Eugenio Derbez, Samara Weaving, Max Greenfield

    Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance

     The Valet (2022) on IMDb

Eugenio Derbez, a Mexican actor who was most recently seen as Bernardo “Mr. V” Villalobos in the Oscar-winning CODA, plays Antonio, a modest, kind-hearted valet in Los Angeles who is divorced, living with his mother, and pedaling his bicycle all over the city. Antonio also has an absurd, Frankenstein-like flat-top hairstyle.

When Olivia and Antonio unintentionally appear in a paparazzi photo, Vincent strikes a deal with Antonio to have Antonio masquerade as Olivia’s boyfriend. Of course, the strange pair assists one another in their endeavors. Although The Valet is familiar and long, 123 minutes, the movie has a genuine warmth about it, and Derbez and Weaving have a lovely relationship.

  10. Prey

    Director: Dan Trachtenberg

Writers: Patrick Aison, Dan Trachtenberg, Jim Thomas

Stars: Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro

Genres: Action, Adventure, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller

     Prey (2022) on IMDb

This Predator franchise sequel, which features a fantastic idea and a terrific lead character, deserves to debut on the big screen, but it’s also fun to watch at home and a huge success for Hulu. Taabe is the star hunter for his tribe of Comanches centuries ago. Despite having more than enough competence, his sister Naru wants to go hunting too, but the men forbid her. She is the only one to sense something is wrong in the forest, so she sneaks outside to investigate. For a long time, Naru is all by herself on screen, surrounded only by her dog, a few animals, and our old dreadlocked acquaintance with its eerie clicking sounds. It’s thrilling to watch her continually, fearlessly changing to keep up with her deadly nemesis.

Dan Trachtenberg, the film’s director and co-writer maintains the period drama’s impression of relevance and modernity, using culture and gender. The smeary-looking synthetic effects are one criticism, but aside from that, Prey works mostly because of the people we care about.
