Further investigation reveals that the land on which the house was built belonged to a witch named Bathsheba Sherman, who sacrificed her infant, confessed her love to the devil, and hanged herself to a tree exactly at 3:07 in the morning after cursing all those who wanted to possess her land. They also find records of numerous suicides and murders in the houses built on the land. Subsequently, Carolyn’s health deteriorates with more prominent black bruises.
One day, while she rests on her bed, Bathsheba appears, vomits black bile in Carolyn’s mouth, and possesses her. Lorraine witnesses the witch’s body hanging from the tree. That night, from the EVPs the investigators hear a spirit luring Cindy inside the antic cupboard and there she reveals a secret passage. Lorraine enters to the passage but the passage gives in and Lorraine falls right down to the cellar. Lorraine encounters the spirit of a woman who was possessed by Bathsheba and killed her child.
Lorraine losses the locket with the picture of her daughter Judy in it inside the cellar. Bathsheba’s attack on Nancy made its existence evident to conduct an exorcism. While the Perrons temporarily move to a motel, the Warrens visit Father Gordon to permit an exorcism. Father Gordon replies that since the Perrons are not Christian, the approval must come directly from the Vatican. Bathsheba manages to attack Judy through the locket.
With the help of “Annabelle”, the witch tries to kill Judy but Ed saves her in the nick of time. Annabelle is returned to the box and Bathsheba returns to her land. Carolyn takes Christine and April to kill them. Ed and Lorraine rush to the farmhouse. With Officer Brad, Roger and Drew manage to decapacitate Carolyn and stop her from killing Christine. They try to take her to the priest but Bathsheba does not allow it.
Lorraine tells that bringing Carolyn out of the house would kill her. Carolyn is dragged back into the cellar. Drew tells Christine to stay inside the car while he finds April. Back at the cellar, others struggle to get a hold of Carolyn. They finally manage to tie her up to the chair. Ed knowing they don’t have much time decides to conduct the exorcism. Carolyn possessed by Bathsheba violently reacts to the holy water and the prayers.
Drew manages to find April under the kitchen floor and tries to break an opening. She levitates with the chair and falls breaking free. They pin her down. Bathsheba attempts to kill Ed. Drew shouts out to which Carolyn escapes and crawls towards the kitchen basement. April tries to get away from Carolyn.
Carolyn tries to kill her daughter but Lorraine places her hand on Carolyn’s head from the floor opening reminding her of a special memory when Carolyn had a wonderful time with her family on the beach. Carolyn fights back and Ed completes the exorcism. Bathsheba’s curse is lifted and she is damned to Hell. The Perron family reunites. April gives Lorraine the locket she lost. Ed adds the music box retrieved from the farmhouse to his collection of cursed objects.

There are three “The Conjuring” movies. With its premiere in 2013, The Conjuring was the beginning of the entire Conjuring Universe. Three years later, the movie had a follow-up as The Conjuring 2 (2016). The last part of the movie series as well as the Conjuring Universe was recently released on June 4, 2021.
Though it’s a popular question in the horror movie underworld, The Conjuring and Insidious franchises are not linked to each other. They might have similar themes of possession or hauntings, but the stories are completely unrelated. The link can be boiled down to director James Wan, responsible for some of the most memorable moments in modern horror.
It’s hard to choose just one Conjuring movie to watch, but luckily there are plenty of streaming services and options available for fans of the horrifying series. Netflix carries The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, and the other movies in the franchise from there can be found on Amazon Prime or YouTube Movies. For those who want to own all the movies, purchasing them on digital platforms such as iTunes is a great way to build a collection.
Fans of The Conjuring series will have to wait a little longer as, unfortunately, as of January 2023, there is no set a date for The Conjuring 4. While this news may be disappointing to many, the fact that a sequel to The Nun 2 is scheduled for release in September 2023 might be worth the wait. Given that both movies are part of the same larger universe, studio executives would likely want space between their premieres to maximize the popularity of each release. So, we can expect The Conjuring 4 to hit theaters sometime in 2024.
The Conjuring universe of horror films is one of the most beloved in modern cinema, with many claiming The Conjuring as the scariest movie. However, it’s a close tie between the Conjuring 2 and Annabelle. Both movies are expertly done and contain some terrifying moments I have seen in a horror film.
The Conjuring franchise has been the second most horrifying movie series. It has one of the best horror movies in history. The jumpscares and the unanticipated scenes will make your heart race with adrenaline. The movies truly capture the experiences of the haunted victims and send the beautiful message of good over evil.
The cast and the director of The Conjuring (2013), James Wan, have outdone themselves by making the franchise attain such popularity. This is a must-watch in the horror-thriller genre. The movie is best known for its “based on true story” that gives the right amount of shiver down the spine.
